Contemporary Art Fair
February 22-25, 2018

Happy New Year!

In this wonderful new year, apart from my ongoing home gallery exhibit in Carleton Place, Ontario, I'm happy to announce that I will be featuring some key works at the Artist Project 2018 in Toronto for my next high profile exhibit Feb 22 - 25th at the Better Living Centre, Exhibition Place.

Being the biggest independent visual artists' show in Canada, you will treated with the best of where top contemporary art is at. Over 250 artists in all!

Personally exciting, this show will highlight 4 abridged series following my distinct "Hollenstyle" which can only be realized in person. If you're a collector, curator, gallerist, designer or art lover, you are welcome to come explore and discover new art and artists.

This is a unique opportunity to meet and buy art directly at Toronto’s favourite art fair.

Exhibiting my Fraser River Series paintings on a sunny Saturday, September 24, 2011 for the 8th Annual 'Artists on the River' celebration at the Quay in New Westminster was great fun!

Film shoot with Tim Chung of Shaw Cable TV

Here's a still from the shoot with Tim Chung on the camera. A 3 minute feature highlighting some of my paintings using my own method; the "Hollenstyle 2"
Aside from some glare, a mispronounced name (It's Anthony Hol-len-stein), and a little exaggeration, it was cool to be featured on TV. It doesn't happen every day.

The Under $100 Art Launch

Participating in the New West Artists launch exhibition, with 3 under $100 works, Anthony had to try something other than what he's used to. Rather than spending hundreds of hours on one piece, he had to create three works in a short time frame. As he was put to the fire he worked at a quick pace to create these 3 oil paintings for the event.

Anthony admits that the limits in time and price range were a challenge, yet having stretched himself to try something new and having sold all three of his works, it was a great experience.

Royal City Record features NWA Group!

Picture
Julie MacLellan from The Record did the New West Art Group proud with a very insightful and comprehensive article on the founding of the NWA, the passion of the artists dedicated to it's success and the Art Launch event. Featured in her article were Andrea Fergusson, Anthony Hollenstein and Shelly Rothenburger.

The NWA, an artist-run, non-profit group was designed to celebrate, support, encourage and promote visual artists in the community. Its official launch with the exhibition Feb. 11 to 13 at River Market was a great success. The under-$100 theme was chosen to make the exhibition as inclusive as possible.

Art Inspired by a Royal City

Prior to the showing in the 2010 New Westminster Cultural Crawl a very descriptive write-up in the New West Newsleader newspaper, August 6th edition, was generously written.

Inspired by a Royal City
Local artist Anthony Hollenstein's work as part of the Cultural Crawl August 2010

Local artist Anthony Hollenstein is always on the hunt for new inspiration and a new scene to paint. When he discovered the beach underneath the Skytrain bridge that looks back on New Westminster, he said he had to commit the scene to canvas.

"As a painter, the past has so many romantic connotations " said Hollenstein, a Royal City resident since 2004. " And the Fraser River and New Westminster have so much of that kind of character. It really makes this one of the best places to paint."

Hollenstein's love of the Fraser River produced a 10-painting series, highlighting different aspects of the river, that will be on display during this year's New Westminster Cultural Crawl.

The series, he said, is a melding of impressionist and post-impressionist styles, which makes for a colourful and layered visual experience.

For instance, in the aforementioned painting, called "Under the SkyTrain Bridge", each piece of the landscape comes forward until the closest element - in this case a log- feels as though it is right in your face.

Hollenstein's 10-painting collection on the Fraser River will be on display at the Fraser River Discovery Centre at 788 Quayside Dr. on Aug. 7, 2010, from noon to 4 p.m.
